UserVoice - Director of Digital Engagement

The UK Government is hiring a senior Director of Digital Engagement:

This is not a role for a generalist. The professional skills required are formidable. Engagement in the digital space is a young ‘profession’ and the job requires someone who would be acknowledged by their peer group to be a leader in this field. The successful candidate will have a CV that creates instant credibility and confidence with Ministers, senior officials and digital communicators in Whitehall.

The to-do list in the job description is… challenging. Fix consultation. Embed digital in day-to-day working. Bring the web into the Press Office. With so much to do, and so many pressures, what should the poor soul do first?

I like the online customer feedback and ideas generation tool UserVoice, so inspired by ObamaCTO – a wish list of priorities for Obama’s new CTO – I’ve put together a list of priorities for the new UK Director. It’s starting to fill up nicely with issues of procurement, access to social media and opening up public information. What would you like to see them do?

Nice application of User Voice, Steph. Good thinking.

There are some grand requirements in there.

Is there a consensus amongst the ‘digital community’ about what world class digital engagement looks and feels like when applied by government?

It’s not the US Presidency y’know! Here in the UK, for a job like that we’ll take anybody (assuming they have the right visa)…
